Community Programs and Events
The Human Race
Ocean Discovery is proud to run in the Human Race every year. Come and run with us! The Human Race is Sonoma County’s largest fundraiser for nonprofit organizations. Race Day consists of a 3K and 10K run and walk, a pancake breakfast, and lots of celebration, music, contests, and prizes. Individual runners and walkers solicit pledges from friends and supporters for contributions to a favorite participating nonprofit organization. To learn more about the Human Race, see http://www.volunteernow.org/hrform.html. To participate or contribute on behalf of Ocean Discovery!, contact our Human Race organizer at

Ocean Week
Each year, schools participating in the MARE program celebrate Ocean Week, when entire schools are transformed into working marine laboratories. Students, teachers, parents, and the local community come together to explore and discover the ocean’s wonders through special projects and activities, guest speakers, and field trips.
Want to get involved? You don’t need to be an expert. Perhaps you have some special knowledge about local marine habitats or can help organize field trips. Would you like to adapt some craft or talent (painting, fish prints, algal pressings, storytelling, theater productions and sets) to promote ocean awareness? Ocean Week is a dynamic event that is molded by its participants. To donate your time or skills, contact our Ocean Week coordinator at suzy discovertheocean.org.
